2008 Tiercel Anatum Peregrine

2008 Parent Raised
Tiercel Anatum Peregrine

(Photos by Barbara Davis of Markham, Texas)

This Peregrine Tiercel is out of Dakota, female from 2003 that was raised in an artificial nest site and who was lost after she hardpenned. About 7 and a half months later, she was accidently trapped by a falconer 200 miles south, who had set for a Prairie. Dakota came in and was trapped. Dakota has turned out to be one of the finest gamehawks I've ever flown. She flies high and takes all ducks and upland gamebirds with regularity. Dakota won the Utah Sky Trials in 2008 and only flew marginally well for both days. She generally flies higher when we go gamehawking, but nonetheless, she flew well and is an exceptional gamehawk to boot! It seems to be in her genes! The Sire is a tiercel named Prince and he is the same breeding as Dakota. He is flown by a friend of mine and is a high flier and very gamey as well. The parents formed a natural bond and are a natural breeding pair every spring and summer. Both parents are flown as falconry birds every season. This little guy comes from some exceptional stock and I expect that he will be a high flier like his parents and capable of taking wild quarry and even mallards and other larger upland gamebirds, if he is entered properly.

Other details about the tiercel specifically are: He came out of the chamber at 690 grams. He wasn't removed from the parents until after he was hard-penned. He has spent the last couple of weeks being fed on the glove and his weight is down around 500 grams. It took a bit of leaning on him to get him to give in and start to eat. He is actually quite tame on the glove though. Now, he is going to the dead lure, allowing himself to be picked up AND he has killed his first pigeon out on a creance. He is ready to put in the air now. You can see from the photo at the top that he let's me touch him quite readily. He has nice sized feet. He is feather perfect. I expect that he will fly around 550 in his first season, if he is expected to go out and fly hard and feed himself and discover that he is a fine tuned, flying and killing machine. He takes the hood like a seasoned gamehawk already too.

I'm asking $700 for him. Call Scott at 208-221-2748 if you are interested.
